Weekend update - Furry friends and crafting

This weekend has been rather exciting; Saturday morning we took the children to the local pet shop to pick their first hamsters. Now if you knew my daughter, who we nickname “Doctor Doolittle”, you would understand what a huge deal this is for her, she has been begging for the last two years to have a furry friend of her own.
Sophia picked a huge ginger Hamster, who at first she named Justin Bieber, then decided after lots of ridicule from her big brother, that she would call him Minty, because of her love of Mentos lol I think she choose Minty because he had long hair, as the first thing she brought was a finger brush so she could groom him lol
He is really cheeky, on the way home he managed to chew through his little box which was thankfully inside a bigger box {which he is sticking his head through in first picture} and it was a mad dash to get him inside the cage so he didn't run loose in the car lol

My son on the other hand picked a beautiful brown hamster who he has named Coco, he seems to be so sweet natured, he also runs on top of his wheel rather inside lol great fun to watch!

Minty lives with Sophia in her room, and Coco with Bailey in his, its so sweet to see them both enjoying the responsibility of changing water, and food. They have even moved where they sleep at night so they can be closer to their little friend.

In other non furry news, i have been making stitch markers which are actually really fun and addictive to make!
{In the process of putting together a photo tutorial}

Sophia did some needle felting, having never done it before, i think she did a great job! And she never stabbed her self once!! {unlike me! my fingers have pit holes all over them lol}

I took delivery of my custom made stamp on Friday, and have been making business cards with recycled card, they look really effective i think.

last night i started to upload my fantasy and rainbow colour ways to Etsy,  9 have sold already! I have aload more to upload today. would really love to see pictures once they have been used.

Finally remember my Christmas give away end at midnight tonight! {winner will be posted tomorrow!}

Have a lovely day xx

Creative/FO Friday {25/11/11} huge pile of yarn

Hello friday, i hope i find you well?!

Wow this week has gone so fast!!
My fo/creative Friday this week is the huge amount of yarn that I have been working on for the last three days for my fantasy range.
 Each skein is hand painted and I am really pleased with how each one turned out, the colours are gorgouse, I now have to get each one labelled and uploaded to shop.Some of you would have seen these pictures already, but they make for great yarn porn so will post again :)
I am also seriously thinking about adding a mini skein range  to my shop, I think these yarns would make an awesome bee keeps quilt?!
Well that’s it from me, remember my Christmas give away ends this Monday!
Have a fantastic weekend and happy Thanksgiving for yesterday to all my lovely state readers!
P.s I have updated my "about me" page, but be warned i do ramble on quite a bit ;)

Work in Progress Wednesday - {23/11/11}

Late one from me today, i Have been dyeing yarn since 8am this morning, and still have some silk simmering in the pot as i type

Just a couple of things really, i have a head for the new teddy i am crocheting, i am aiming to make this one "teddy "sized and making it up like i am going along like the last one.

My other WIP is my new yarn range "fantasy” initially it was witches brew that sparked the idea, but then a lovely lady on my face book page commented that one of my new yarns looked like Unicorn hair, and some other colour ways i have produced look to me like mermaid hair :) they are all "rainbow" based, and below is a sneak peek of what’s to come.
Night all xx

Finding Beauty in Misery

Surely I am not the only one that finds beauty in misery??
I have always been drawn to the eerie wonders in life, such as foggy days, old houses, cemeteries,  vampires {yes and the twinkly kind lol}, dolls with sad expressions  I think you get the idea lol.
Well today I have been in my element {grins} here in west Sussex it’s been really, really foggy! And I got some beautiful pictures {IMO of course lol}

Really wish I had my camera with me last night, as on the way to Goodwood hotel, my husband and I saw a huge stag with two does walking down a country lane towards us, and it was one of those moments when time seems to slow down, absolutely magical.
Hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend!?
 I started crocheting another teddy which at the moment looks like a boob {lol} so I will leave you with a picture. {It made me smile anyway}
Thanks for stopping by xx

Supporting Handmade #buyhandmade

It’s a known fact that, a massive portion of the Handmade Designers and makers find it hard to make a living from their unique and personalised small businesses.
I personally much prefer buying Handmade because it helps promote local small businesses and the skill and workman ship, that let’s face it, seems to be dying out because of the mass produced items!
For me You can’t beat receiving a unique , personally handmade item, not only will the quality of handmade item last longer than, a mass productive one, but you also treasure and value the item more because of the effort and passion and skill that has gone into it.
I truly believe that every handmade product bears an invisible hallmark or a little soul from the person who has created it because passion, time, skills, experience, and a whole lot of love is something that can’t be replicated by a machine!
In the UK we are very fortunate to have Ukhandmade, who have set up a Campaign to get people buying and supporting from independent designers and makers again.
They believe it has never been so important to buy from small independent business and individuals given the current economic climate.
Not only that, but buying handmade has other advantages and benefits that you won’t get from buying from the larger stores on the high street!
“Many designer / makers will happily produce items that are made to order and bespoke so you can get something uniquely personal at surprisingly affordable prices because many designers don't have the same overheads as shops.
Buying locally reduces your carbon footprint because products haven't been shipped from the other side of the world.
Buying locally also means the money you spend stays in your area and boosts the local economy.
Independent makers care about the things they make so building a relationship with local designer / makers means you are guaranteed outstanding customer service and exceptional quality.”

Work in Progress Wednesday - {16/11/11}

Good Morning Wednesday :)

After a few questions on how am I going to customise my Blythe, I thought it was only right to include her into my WIP.
The plan is to, take her scalp off, and re-root her hair with wensleydale tops that I dyed, not sure if I want a purple/pink mix, or the reddy pink mix..or even the green and blue???
I am also going to give her 4 sets of new eye chips, tweak her eye mechanism so that I can change the position of the eyes into a more realistic one.
I am going to take her face plate off and sand it down to Remove her current make up and also take the shine off her face, then re-apply Make-up.
Then of course knit/sew clothes to match lol..i have already knitted her a headband out of witches brew!
I have ends to sew in for my granny blanket *sigh*
I am also making a yarn wreath using vintage yarn and felt.
 For my December theme Give way, which will run the early part of next week, I am putting together a Mini yarn wreath kit, which you can make yourself, the wreath is a brilliant size for mantel decoration or for hanging in the Christmas tree, and the kit will also have felt, a little skein of yarn. I also have three knit pro crochet hooks up for grabs, which are lovely to gift, or to keep.
Well that’s it from me today; tomorrow my little pickle turns 2, and we are going to the zoo {squee} so today I am going to dye some more yarn, i spent the whole day yesterday printing and making my yarn labels, I am so chuffed with them! I eat, sleep, breath yarn ATM, i just love working with it lol
Have a lovely day, and thanks for stopping by xxx

Weekend update - Exploring in the garden

Weather was really mild on Sunday, so a great opportunity to spend a little time in the garden with my children and my camera
Sophia's hair is starting to grow back, {remember she cut it herself a few months back} but she now looks like she has a very high blunt fringe {much to her delight lol}

Also Managed to capture a bit of wild life {well if flys count lol}, I laid some grass seeds a couple of weeks ago, thinking that it wouldn’t be a success, but due to the mild weather, and no frost covering the ground it managed to germinate, {squee} also have loads of spider webs which was highlighted to me by the dew drops covering them, which are just beautiful.
I also have quite a little collection of fungi growing, and the ivy I cut down, has finally turned brown.

And finally with most of the "pretty" insects gone now the season has turned, I felt quite excited to find a bunch of fly’s hanging out on some random wild flowers in my back garden.

If anyone knows what the flowers are, I would love to know!? Any way on closer inspection, they are actually quite pretty to look at, even if in reality they are really gross pests.

The weather today is completely different, you can certainly feel the temperature has dropped and I am freezing.  So who knows what tomorrow will bring lol
Hope you all had a lovely weekend! Thanks for stopping by xx

Edit update ~ few more pictures i have edited.

Hope you liked them! and thanks for popping back to take a look :) xx

Elf on The Shelf

On Instagram, i have been noticing these little elves popping up all over the place, one of my favorite people to follow Becky Farley from the USA who also has an awesome blog has her little elf pop up all over the place, i really look forward to see where he is each day, he also has a few buddies lol

Now being from the UK i have never heard of this Christmas tradition, so thought i would look it up.

OK bit of background

The Plot

Every day from Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve, each family's scout elf watches over the children and then at night, once everyone goes to bed, the elf flies back to the North Pole to report back to Santa about what activities, good and bad, took place throughout the day.

Before the family wakes up each morning, the scout elf flies back from the North Pole and hides. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, the scout elf and the family play an on-going game of hide and seek. The Elf on the Shelf explains that elves get their magic by being named. In the back of each book, families have an opportunity to write their elf's name and the date that they adopted it. Once the elf is named, the scout elf receives its special Christmas magic which allows it to fly to and from the North Pole.

 However, the magic might go if touched, so the rule for The Elf on the Shelf states: "There's only one rule that you have to follow so I will come back and be here tomorrow: Please do not touch me. My magic might go, and Santa won't hear all I've seen or I know." Although families aren't supposed to touch their scout elf, they can talk to it and tell it all their Christmas wishes so it can report back to Santa accurately.

Now i know this might seem a bit scary for a child to some people , and i also realise that alot of families don't like the talk of "Being good or Bad" and it being connected to Christmas. but i really do think this could be adapted for light hearted fun.

I know that my children would find it fun and exciting to find the elf every morning, and you could even make it apart of your advent calender routine, where the children find him, and they get their treat or activity to do with Christmas for the day.

Just out of interest have any of you UK readers heard of this? and those of you in the USA do you do elf on the shelf as a Christmas tradition?

If you want more info head over to elf on the shelf

I am going to see if i can make our own little elf,  out of crochet or maybe even knitted! :)

Work in Progress Wednesday - {09-11-11} Sad good bye

Hello Wednesday,

It’s a bit of a sad Wednesday for me, this afternoon, I said goodbye to a dear friend of our family, and he was suddenly taken from us, on October the 8th. Paul was a very talented photographer; he had a heart of gold, and never failed to make us laugh or smile.

This may sound a bit out there, but today as I was about to leave the house for the funeral a white feather fell from the sky and landed at my feet.  I like to think this is from Paul, and it made me think of a poem and I would like to share it here.

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there,
 I do not sleep I am a 1,000 winds that blow I am the diamond glints on snow I am the sun on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled light I am the soft star that shines at night Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there; I did not die.

We are all still getting over the shock, but time is a healer, and I know this will be a personal work in progress for me.

And now back to life and my more cheerful WIP's

Can you guess what i am making??

I am also still working on a friends custom blanket

Not sure how many rows I have left, as I am just doing it all by eye, but its growing quickly, I really hope she likes it, it’s comforting to know that a "new" life will be wrapped up in it.
 Tomorrow i need to up load all this yarn to my Etsy shop, looking at yarn always makes me feel better so i am going to post some nice pictures

 See I am feeling better already, what is it about yarn!!?, it has such a calming effect on me, I love the feel, the smell, the colours, I can seriously spend hours just hugging them lol

Well that’s it from me, I feel drained from the tears shed, my head feels like it’s going to burst, an early night is needed, tomorrow is a new day, it’s just a shame that it takes a loss to make you realise how fragile life is, and how easy it is to lose sight of what is important.
Today I told my Mum and Dad just how much I love them, because I don’t say it enough,  before I go to bed I will gaze upon my sleeping children, kiss there sweet innocent little faces and thank the earth for every second I get to spend with them.

Sorry if this blog post has been a bit morbid, My heart is heavy..its It’s helpful to have a place to reflect. As always thank you for taking time to read. {Hugs to those who need them}
Night xxx
